Eleven years ago, I traveled to Asia with my father, for the first time, and today it seems like a lifetime ago.
Before that I had a complete western background education and culture, originally South America, which is very “American” influenced, then living in Israel for some years and visiting Europe often. So it was logical that I always admired and was familiar with the beauty and elegance of European designers, painters, artists.
My boyfriend in Israel (and eventually my husband and father of our two children) used to work for a fine women Fur Coats factory, which were so elegant and glamorous, almost a 100% of the production was exported to Europe and the U.S.
And then when visiting France, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, you could feel, see and taste the great imagination and creativity in art, arquitecture, food and of course fashion.
When we got to Tokyo, it was a complete culture shock, until today I remember telling my father it was like visiting a different planet, and him laughing, it wasn’t his first time, and telling me that I haven’t seen nothing yet. The next three weeks were an incredible experience, the culture, the sights, the food and above all the people. That was the first time that I could comprehend how much are all of us interconnected, depend of each other and can improve all our lives by simply learning from each other and using the different skills and strength to benefit all.
The words that came to mind to describe their culture, its efficiency, diligent and hard work, clean and neatness, very polite and concentrating in improving and learning. That way you can explain the economic miracles of all countries becoming power engines in the world like Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan and now of course China.
And that’s what we accomplished in CHIARA VENEZIA, it’s not us versus them, West versus East, it is instead taking the best design, quality, finish and combine it together with productivity, practicality and finish at an affordable cost so everyone can enjoy a piece of the world.
